2011 Brags

Pete earned his first leg in Excellent A JWW with a 2nd Place. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
4/25: Extra, Extra: Read all about it! Hell freezes over, pigs are seen flying, and Callie passed Excellent A JWW at the GKCDTC agility trial this past weekend, earning her the AXJ title that we have been chasing for the past four years! Whew, I'm tired.
Also, on her debut weekend, Ding, my darling little BC, earned 2 Novice Standard legs with clean runs for First place both times. I couldn't be prouder of my little diamond in the rough. Thanks Mickey & Jenifer.
UPDATE Septermber: Over the Labor Day weekend at the Triune Agility Trial, Ding finished her Novice Agility and Novice JWW titles with 2 First places and 2 Second places. We then went on to Open. We had no successes there, but she ran well and we are beginning to feel more like a team. It will only get more fun from here. She is just the cutest little thing!

Diz earned his 6th Double Q this year at the GKCDTC trials this past weekend. This is the earliest I've ever qualified to go to AKC Nationals, and I am so grateful for this little fireball in my life. His total count is at 11 and we're hoping to follow in Grandad Quirk's and Uncle Zing's footsteps and finish a MACH this year!! Thanks again to Dr Pat Perkins who treated him for a badly sprained toe on his right front just days before we competed.
Quirk finished his MACH3 just 6 weeks after his son Zing finished his MACH! Now on to grandson Diz who needs 9 QQs to finish.

My Shetland Sheepdog, Casey, was entered in all four performance venues at the 2011 ASSA National Sheltie Specialty. His accomplishments:
Qualified in all 4 performance venues. Qualified in both of his Rally classes. Placed 3rd in AKC Open Standard Agility. Placed first in AKC Open A Obedience. Qualified in herding to earn his HT herding title.
Casey now has earned titles in all 5 AKC performance arenas that are open to Shelties!

Pat Sorrels and I attended Sheltie Nationals in April at Purina Farms. It was my pleasure to run her Sheltie, Casey, in Agility. We placed 3rd in his class and, most importantly, qualified, which set the stage for the rest of the week. The next day, Pat and Casey competed in Obedience where he won his class. They also competed in Rally where he also qualified.
The next day was Herding and Casey earned his Herding title. Casey was also entered in the Conformation ring so that he would be eligible for the Best All Around Sheltie Award. There were only 16 dogs out of approximately 600 entries that were entered in all 5 arenas of competition. Casey and Pat placed 4th overall. What a terrific accomplishment!!
I ran my own Shelties in Agility. Minnie, who is not known for her speed, won her JWW class! She was 11 seconds under time!! Mickey Dog would have been second to her, but dropped a bar. Not bad for an old dog that just discovered this year he likes Agility! He had fun and certainly thought he was winner.
I am very proud of Ariel. After I stepped on her at 15 months of age, leaving her with a broken leg, I thought I had ended her Agility career. She ran Standard and it was the first time she completed a full course. She qualified and took 2nd place!
It was a fun experience and now I know why I never gave up. None of these results would have been possible without Mickey's classes and encouragement. That you, Mickey, for giving me a bag of tools which allows me to run smart!

After a whole summer of not being able to travel in 100-degree heat, I dared to enter Feather, Hershey and Dart in 13 entries over a 4-day period at the Topeka/ Manhattan Obedience trial August 26 - 29.
I entered FEather in Rally Advanced A and Obedience Novice B. She earned her CD in 3 straight days, and earned an insurance leg on Sunday. On all 3 days, she won first place in Rally Advanced A. She has found her focus in Rally!
Hershey entered in Rally Advanced A, finished that title on Friday and moved up to successfully complete 2 legs in Rally Excellent A.
Dart, in his first AKC appearance, was almost too happy to be competeing, but earned all 3 legs of his Rally Novice B title in 3 straight days.
With 13 entries, 13 Q's, many placements, and a one-in-a-million weekend of success, I have never been prouder of all 3 dogs!

At the GSD 2011 Nationals, Sierra showed very well. She ran a JWW course in 20 seconds on Monday, but dropped a bar in each of her classes. On Tuesday she won 1st place in STD which put her in the running for High Scoring Dog. On Wednesday we had to beat our nearest competitor by 2 seconds. She actually had a time that was better than 7 seconds, but landed on the last board of the broad jump coming hot out of a tunnel. The crowd sighed its disappointment when she jumped too early for that broad jump.
She was one of the best dogs there, and certainly one of the fastest! She was running courses in almost half the time the other GSDs in her class. The judge loved her, as did many of the judges watching in the crowd. The judge remarked to me, "You are a very good handler!" . . . and that's all your advice showing. I can't wait until the National at Loveland next year! Thanks fora ll your mentoring and support. We had a great time, and that's what really matters.
